Councils – a partnership of five

Hawke’s Bay covers around 1.42 million hectares, with 350 km of coastline on the Pacific Ocean. It stretches from Mahia Peninsula in the north, to the sweeping beaches of Porangahau in the south, and inland to the Ruataniwha and Kaweka mountain ranges.

There are five councils servicing the Hawke's Bay region.

The Hawke’s Bay Regional Council looks after the region’s land, water, soil, air, and coastal resources, as well as managing land transport, biosecurity and civil defence.

The Napier City Council’s goal is to make Napier the best provincial city in New Zealand. The council looks after the city of Napier, from its vibrant seaside CBD to its busy industrial areas including the Port of Napier.

Napier City Council has a dedicated Enterprise Unit to provide services including business start-up and company rebuilding advice, not to mention their own specialist migrant support programme Get a Life.

The Hastings District Council is also committed to managing the district’s growth in a progressive and open-minded manner.

It works hard to balance industrial development and the required infrastructure without compromising the rural character and quality of lifestyle that is present within the district.

The Wairoa District Council is extremely supportive of further development for the area and is as flexible as possible with district planning requirements to smooth the way for investors.

The Central Hawke’s Bay District Council prides itself in being a progressive local authority, supporting new and existing businesses. Its catchphrase is “Caring Community - Outstanding Lifestyle”.

The council works with prospective investors to achieve a positive outcome for all.
