Hawke’s Bay has a Mediterranean climate with warm summers, where temperatures sit around the mid 20s, and short mild winters.
The region owes its favourable climate to a group of mountains on the Western border – the 200 million year old Kaweka and Ruahine ranges. These provide protection from the rain bands and storms that move across the country in a west-east direction from the Tasman Sea.
The high sunshine hours and relatively mild winter temperatures help make the region the largest producer of pip and stonefruit in the country, and the second largest producer of wine grapes. It’s also a perfect climate for family fun – many locals enjoy the wide range of outdoor activities the region offers year round.
Hawke’s Bay’s average annual rainfall is 600-800mm. FInd out what the weather in is doing in Hawke's Bay today by clicking here.
