The region is home to a well-rounded group of industrial sectors stretching across the spectrum of primary, manufacturing through to tertiary services.
Hawke’s Bay is one of the rural jewels in New Zealand’s renowned agricultural crown. From apples and kiwifruit to grapes the region produces some of this country’s best.
This is complemented by an export-oriented primary food processing industry that includes international food giants as well as locally owned companies.
Other sizable manufacturing sectors include forestry and wood processing, chemicals and a small but entrepreneurial engineering and the technology industry.
The region is the retail hub of the eastern North Island, with strong healthcare and education sectors and a fast growing finance, real estate and business services industry.
The services sector is also well represented, with strong retail, financial, real estate and business services industries, while a strong regional presence in the education, health, recreation and personal services industries helps to round out a cross-section of the regional economy.
The growth in the wine industry, coupled with the lifestyle and recreational opportunities present in the region has provided a boost to the increasing tourism industry.
