The New Zealand Government offers financial assistance to businesses by way of grants for projects.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) administer an Enterprise Development Grant which is a 50% co-fund grant open to entrepreneurs, start-ups and established businesses who meet the following criteria:
- Have no more than 20 full-time equivalent employees.
- Have annual turnover of less than $5 million.
- Are resident in New Zealand for tax purposes.
- Are registered for GST if required.
- Are a commercial entity and able to show how they can finance the project.
Eight types of business activities are funded:
- Strategic business development
- Feasibility studies
- Business and operational excellence
- E-commerce and e-business strategies
- Market development - strategy development only
- Business mentoring
- Management and technology-based training
- Business advisory boards
